The cop that came to visit us at our Meet n Greet in Dublin said plated had to be in the Front most and rear most part of the car. But hey, if it's not in writing...it ain't so.

He (the cop) also said he had a SRT 300 with Blacked out windows, no front plate, CAI, and Predator....so he wasnt there to give us tickets! Just check out our rides....and get my autograph! He's only human!

I'd rather dork up my car a bit and save the hassle and money. Just like I'd rather not race whatever idiot on the freeway wants to pass me to avoid the stupid speeding ticket, since any time I get that itch to let the Charger loose, there's always a LEO waiting up around the corner/bend.

*knocking on wood* I live in Dublin where I regularly see Federal, State, County and three or four different local department LEOs any time I go out and have only been pulled over once and that was for my tinted tails. If I have to drive like grandma around town, so be it.

I just hate the fact that cars these days don't come with a place for the front license plate. I believe it's because not all states have that requirement. However, I wish the law could read that if there is no specific place to put the license plate, it shouldn't be required. If there isn't an empty spot where a plate should be, we shouldn't have to make one! :P I got one of those tickets when I owned a 93 Cutlass in college. I only had one license plate to begin with, so I had to order a whole new set just to have a front plate. ARGH.

I recieved my documents this week to either make the correction, pay or pay the bail forforteir. Even when you get the correction done and signed off you pay $25. If I choose to pay the ticket and not fix it the cost is $180. As much as I hate to put a front plate on the car ruining the look I don't want to pay $180. Everytime i see a cop and they look at my car I have to look in my rearview mirror to see if they turned around. I will rest a bit easier knowing the plate is on and I'm legal and not always looking over my back.

Troy: Just tape like I did mine and remove it the day before you go to your next show. It doesn't take a lot of time to remove and you won't have to worry about drilling or zip ties scratching the paint.

I plan on doing the taping this weekend and then get the ticket signed off.

CVC (California Vehicle Code): 5200: in part......License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued as to prevent the plates from swinging and shall be mounted in a position to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible.
So to tape (need to tape it to comply with the "securely fastened") your plate to the windshield on the front dash would comply with this section since the plate won't swing' is clearly visible' and maintained in good condition.
Problem is two fold.
1. If the cop "interprets" the front windshield to be a violation (though it seems not to be), he now has PC (probable cause) to stop you. If you have had a beer, have a warrant, or have something in your car illegal, your getting a citation or going to jail. He doesn't have to cite you on the front plate violation, it's just PC to stop you. We all have better things to do than sit on the side of the road and get another cite.
2. You go to court and show the judge the above section on plates. This judge "interprets" the section "his way" and finds you guilty. He has the gavel, and minus an appeals process, has the final word. I've seen some off the wall "interpretations" of law by judges!! Again, better things to do than go to court.
That being said, the tape the plate routine seems very reasonable. The only other option is to bolt it to the front bumper, which none of us are going to do!!! Agree?
