I need your help. I have a huge decision to make in a very short time. Just got the official word I will be deploying in July for 7 months. Then possibly another 3-5months about a 1 or so after I return. So should I store the car or pay someone to keep the car.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last time I put Boo in storage but we were knew to Cali. I had only been in the state two months. And she was stock except for rims and tint. What to do??????? I feel bad having someone take care of the car for that long, giving someone else the added burden of taking car of an extra car. But storage sucks too because she gets no love.

Wow, Elee....that is a big decision! For me, I'd probably explore storing it in a storage shed and pay that rent on a month to month basis. That could be expensive over time, however. If you knew someone that you trust and that has space to keep the car then that might be best. They could start it up from time to time and keep the fluids moving once in awhile.
I don't have a definitive answer for you....sorry! Good luck with the decision and your deployment. If there's anything you'd like me to check out for you, let me know. I don't know what your status is in Hanford...just that where you park it is a mighty small garage.

First, thanx for serving our country. I will miss seeing you at our events and wish you the best. I think Augie's suggestion should work. Put Boo in storage near another CenCaler who will maybe check on and start her from time to time.

I get crap all the time from a close freind of mine.
Yes, I store the Maggie in a storage unit and only bring it out for CenCal events, to work on it, or to race. My wife thinks I'm nuts too! I only do because we have no garage. We have a driveway that can fit three cars, but I can't leaver the wagon out all day, every day and just let it sit collecting dust etc. My name is John, and I have a problem.... Elee: me personally, I would put it in storage and have someone go and start it up, and run the engine to operating temp every couple weeks. Seems like a lot, but this should help ensure that everything stays lubed and you shouldn't have any other issues like a dead battery etc. Definately get a closed unit like I have. I call it my garage! You may be able to find a storage place near a CenCal member that has a unit big enough for your car (mine is 10x20) and may offer 1 month free if you pay for 5 or 6 months up front. It's more cost effective this way too! You will also want to make sure they will allow you to store the car in the unit. Some do not, as they may have outside storage space. Definately shop around on rates and "move in" specials! Last edited by EPIC SRT; 03-11-2010 at 08:35 AM. |

Stay safe while on deployment.
I voted for storage. It would be sweet to put her on blocks, and install a battery Tender. I've been using a Waterproof 800 International Battery Tender for two years now, and no dead battery. Waterproof 800 International - Automotive - Batterytender.com Ken

I agree with those that say find a place to lock it up and have someone check on it and start from time to time.
I am offering to help. I am in Visalia and if there is an affordable storage place that could house the car in Visalia, I am willing to take responsibility to check on Boo and care for her for you. There are a lot of places along Goshen Ave, and I live close by. Depending on your comfort level, I am willing to start her every now and then, take for short drives and keep fresh fuel in tank, and occassionally wash to keep dust off. Anyway, think about it and send me a PM if I can help. That's a long deployment. You will be missed. Give us a list of what you want in your care packages!
