Default Paintball/Airsoft Discussion :P

So we don't take over the random pic with paintball chat lol.

Post whatever you want about paintball or airsoft here.

What Gun you have..

What Gear you have..

How long have you been playing?

Do you play Regular pickup player at a field, a team Tournament level player or just someone who like to play whenever you get a chance?

Got questions about paintball guns? Equipment? Tactics? Local fields?

I haven't played for years but I can answer just about any paintball question since nothing but the styles of the guns, pro team rosters, have changed.

Plus im sure there are many more in this club that would be happy to share their thoughts and experience here.

Play when I can. Prefer woods ball, but also like rec ball. Play on 10 acres in Clovis (friends property) and at extreme in hughson.

I wear digi-cammo, ARMY digi-cammo mask (will be needing to replace the clothes as I have under grown them).

I have a BT4 marker with short, long and APEX barrels. Prefer the long barrel. Electric rip clip and e-trigger (never run auto or burst though). I do waist paint! Not unusual for me to go through 2000 rounds in about 4-5 hours of play.

Wife wears old cammo and has a TAC 9 marker.

Whats the difference between the cheap guns and expensive ones? For example looking at this bundle here:

Spyder Paintball MR4 Tac Vest Marker Gun Sniper Set

Would it be good for a casual player?

Also do they sell rifled barrels for these guns or does the rifling pop the paintball?

I like woodsball better, but do like Speedball too(depends on my teamates)!!!

Im was very recreational when I played from 2000-2004, have played against some pro teams for scrimmage.

My first gun was a Electronic Spyder(3 months), but then sold it for my upgrade to a Tippman A-5!!! Still a sick gun, but at the time all my friends were buying Dye or Bob Long guns and I didnt want to get left behind.

Bought my first 2001 Bob Long Intimidator Lasoya...this is the one that is Purple to Black fade(a mistake by the factory as it was suppose to be blue to black fade). I kept it as it was very rare and have had many compliments. I played mostly in Sacramento, but did play a couple places in Bay Area...I know Santa Clara Paintball is still around, but believe the Fremont place is no longer.

In Sacramento Area, Davis Paintball is HUGE...Infinite Edge in Rancho Murieta is my favorite...Capital Edge Paintball is all Speedball!!

Then I decided in 2010 to try to play again as some friends got back into it again...Used my Lasoya as it still works fine, but go a great deal on a 2010 Bob Long Vice that I couldnt pass up on...Played mostly Infinite and Davis...First Saturday of Month at Davis(Spring & Summer), they have 200-300 people show up...its crazy!!! Been over a year since I played last, but hopefully this Spring...Im gonna get back into it a bit!!!

I have my Deadlywind Carbon Fiber barrel with Freak System...Sick Setup!!!

I used to have a Dye Helmet, but after some time it fell apart...got a Proto Axis Mask in 2010...and my Dye Pants and Armpads/Gloves!!! I used the Big 88cc tanks too!!

Bob Long--Vice gun on top and Lasoya on Bottom

The Bay Area sort of ran dry on Paintball fields as its so Expensive...but have lots of friends who play Airsoft now!!!! I like Paint Better!!! Airsoft hurts alot more than paintball, I think!!

The difference in cheap vs expensive.... Typically u get what you pay for... Reliability and less maintenance requirements not to mention more expensive ones give off the intimidation factor in tournament play... The reason people with cheap guns fear the more expensive is because the more expensive guns have nifty little features such as break beam eyes that keep the bolt from going forward until the ball drops all the way down preventing you from chopping the ball and having to run a squeegee through it mid game. Also your trigger internals are better so you can typically fire much faster than a cheaper gun provided you have a hopper or warp feeder to force the balls into your gun.

Also note that cheap guns come with a crappy stock barrel that is simply a hollow tube... It is not always straight and the bore size is usually too large so your accuracy and velOcity suffer from it.

If you want to put a spin on a paintball here are some tricks I have used for winning tournaments.

1. Shoot your bunker and use your finger to add a little dab of paint on the inside of your barrel on the side you want the ball to spin. Then aim to the left a little and fire. Depending on the amount of paint you dab in the barrel you can cause the ball to make damn near 90 degree turns after flying 10-20 feet out of your gun. Warning: too much paint or the shell of the paintball if in the barrel can cause the next few shots to explode in the barrel or as they exit. This trick takes time to learn and damn near 8000+ rounds to get it down.

2. Air bunkers: if you have a guy on the other side or a little further up but in a spot where you would be too exposed to take the shot... Use the bunker to add spin to your shots. This takes a lot of practice but works the same as the above. Put your gun barrel to the edge of the bunker and have someone spot your shots for you. Fire and let the ball barely come in contact with the edge of the air bunker. This will cause a huge spin on the ball and it should curve around the bunker and then fly towards your target. The more of the ball touches the bunker the more spin but be warned too much will cause it to pop on the bunker and the spot will no longer be good to shoot from since it's now covered with paint.

I have put enough spin on paint to hit people that were completely behind the bunker many a times so this isn't

Rifling does nothing for paintball... The ball is not solid and is filled with a liquid and often a small bubble of air so when fired from a rifled barrel the spin will cause the ball to leave the barrel wildly and each shot will not react the same. You are better without it. The only true barrel mod I have seen work consistently is the tippman long barrel the puts a back spin on the ball causing the shots to have longer range.... The only down side is the further it gos the lower the velocity and that means you can shoot further but it may not break on impact and we call that a bounce.... A bounce does not count as a hit.

As a rec player and a novice to playing I suggest going to a local field. Rent a gun and when you go out to the field ask to pop a few rounds off of other plays guns. If you buy field paint be sure to get the more expensive one as most players don't like shooting cheap pair through their gun. Offer to use your paint and not theirs but usually they don't care.

The gun also needs to fit your playing style..

If you play back field you may want a more flat trajectory gun aka closed bolt... Open bolt guns require more lobbing aka dropping the paint into your target rather than shooting straight at it.

I usually suggest double finger triggers over a single trigger just because it gives you a chance to shoot faster against more high end players.

There is no such thing as a paintball sniper. The name of the game is to snap shoot and put them behind their bunker and then you move to a better position while firing. Wait for 1 second then pop off 2 rounds at the edge if their bunker. Usually you will get them or you can wait for them to advance on your last known location and take that 75% chance to hit shot. It's up to you at that point.

Remember sometimes it's best to pass up on a shot if you can get behind your enemy

I hope this helps in you making your final purchase decision.

Last note...

A crappy player with an expensive gun is still a crappy player.

The gun doesn't make the player... It's only a tool to help enhance your skills you aquire over time.

I can still go out on a speedball field with a pump phantom and still get more hits before being eliminated myself.
