Angry built-in NAV CD comment

So Chrysler sent me a NAV map update DVD, which I thought was way cool of them, until I opened it and it said I had to go online and pay $199 or something to unlock it.

WTF? Hmm, free Google maps nav on my Droid phone that has voice recognition to die for and seems to be smarter than I am, or pay for an update to the built-in nav that I can't type on while I drive and pretty much sucks @$$. Tough decision huh?

Got the same DVD. However, I LOVE my Nav. I couldnt be happier with it. It always gets me where i wanna go, so i don't need the $200 upgrade, but i can't blame a company for trying. I wouldnt call a company that was on the verge of shutting its doors cheap because they are trying to sell this upgrade. Theyre trying to earn that mighty dollar just like we are. HOWEVER, they could have saved a few million bux by sending a sheet of paper (most people won't read) instead of sending everyone the DVD they wont pay to activate.

Hmm but I wonder if the DVD would be multi use after activation? So many of us have the MyGiG, if all of us pitch in a portion of the "key" and we could all use the upgade. I know I have upgraded a few members softwares and gracnotes with disk I have obtained.. There has been a few times that an address was not in my database because it was too new.. Just a pondering thought..

At one of our M&Gs a few months ago someone was handing out copies of the latest REC nav disc to anyone who wanted one. I know I got one. It works fine, and it was free (or it cost the guy who copied it $0.10 for the cd.) I wish I wasn't super-duper bad at remembering names, or I'd give the guy credit.
