Default Power cut!

Sorry Team! No APC backup battery would have helped during this one.
We are back online and ready to serve!

Power out in wide area of Modesto

Bee Staff Reports - local@modbee.com

A large swath of north Modesto is out of power because a Modesto Irrigation District substation went down.
It’s not clear yet what caused the outage, MID spokeswoman Kate Hora said. It began at 6:38 p.m. The MID is working to transfer electricity demand to other substations, and the lights could back on about 7:40 p.m.
Traffic lights are out along Oakdale Road north of Scenic Avenue and along Briggsmore Avenue east of Coffee Road. Police have dispatched officers to help direct traffic.

An MID official at the district’s control station said crews are working to restore power, but it isn’t clear when it will be back.
One of the two transformers at the same substation failed on Dec. 23, according to an MID report at its last Board of Directors meeting. The district had begun preparing the site to replace the transformer.

Two-hour power outage disrupts Modesto traffic

Bee Staff Reports - local@modbee.com
A large swath of north Modesto lost power Monday night because a Modesto Irrigation District substation went down.

It wasn't clear what caused the outage, MID spokeswoman Kate Hora said. It began at 6:38 p.m., and about two-thirds of the district’s 2,000 accounts that lost power had electricity restored by 8:10 p.m. All service was restored around 8:35.
The blackout made for dangerous driving in busy intersections. Police guided traffic along Oakdale Road and Briggsmore Avenue when street lights went dark.

Modesto Bee - ADM GOLUB/ adgolub@modbee.com Modesto Police Officer Robert Hall lights road flares at the intersection of Briggsmore Avenue and Oakdale Road during a power outage on Monday, January 18, 2010. A Modesto Irrigation District substation went down causing power to be lost at 6:38 p.m. to Traffic lights along Oakdale Road north of Scenic Avenue and along Briggsmore Avenue east of Coffee Road.

One of the two transformers at the same substation failed on Dec. 23, according to an MID report at its last Board of Directors meeting. The district had begun preparing the site — its Oakdale substation at the intersection of Oakdale Road and Briggsmore — to replace the transformer, Hora said.
The MID restored power to most of its customers Monday night by re-routing the demand to other substations, Hora said.
