A 180* t-stat opens at around 182*-185*. That being said, once it opens at around 184* is when cool water is introduced to the block. So it is natural to run around 188*-190* normally. A 160*-170* t-stat will open sooner than the 180*, but may throw a code due to the engine running too cool for the computers paramaters. Switch your evic to monitor the temp. Start the car with the motor cool, and watch your temp climb. When the temp stops climbing, and then begins to drop, you'll know your t-stat just opened.
