Cool Is adding a 180 t-state considered performance??

Well, after getting help from Mark getting my tune installed, I finally got with Tom (Bush) on Sunday for help in both installing my 180 degree JET
t-stat and resetting the fan speeds. Really simple modification...except for the Predator. ( have 0 knowledge with these devises) Took just about an hour (because I drove to Tom's home in Fresno from my home in Madera and the engine was hot like a Sonna-BEACH" when I got there. LOL

Tom had a race on TV to get back to watching, so we just jumped right in. Bodda Bing, Bodda Boom and it was done.

Thanks to Tom for his help & knowledge. As hot as it was in Fresno/Madera yesterday, the car never got over 188 degrees on the trip home. It usually runs 203 to 206+ sometimes. 188 will be a great improvement.

The theory on the T-stat is two fold...The new generation Hemi's lose horse power when they get heat soaked,so the lower temp helps keep you from losing H.P. 2nd,the PCM introduces a slightly richer fuel mixture into the motor, during what it senses to be the "warm-up period" of the motor, creating a slight improvement in performance.By keeping the water temp close to 180,the PCM will keep the fuel mixture a little richer.

Is 188 close enough to accomplish this or do I need to lower he degree setting with the Predator??

Thanks for the info. I hadn't considered the air/fuel mixture ratio in changing out the t-stat.

I would consider it a performance mod, because it keeps you from losing performance due to heat soak.

I do use the predator to adjust the fan speeds during our hot central valley summers or if I am going to the track.

Now that we are approaching fall and winter, I don't worry about adjusting the fan settings. I am a daily driver and in this cooler weather, my engine temps run cool enough as I drive around town. Yeah it will warm up if I am idling a lot in stop and go traffic. But as soon as I get some open road it cools right down. I feel it saves unnecessary wear on my fans. Plus, I'm not at WOT all the time as I drive around town.

180 Vs 160 ...

i ran 160 in my previous csrt8 and calibrated the fans and i was happy .. i dont know if i want to do it again .. i know it puts pressure on the fan etc but damn it looking at the temp gauge and seeing it cool most of the time was priceless.

Like I indicated, since I've had the t-stat installed the car stays at 188, NOT 187 or 189 but 188 on the button. If I have a 180 t-stat, shouldn't I expect the temp to be at or very close to 180 (maybe 182 but not higher). It seems like 188 is too far over the desired temp.

I have a jet also and I sit at 183 on moderate days but 186-189 on hotter days. The highest I have seen was 198 on hot ass days but the fans leveled it back to the mid 180's

For my fans I chose

188 for my lows
196 for mids
196 for highs

This is both A/C on and off..

My fans don not run all the time either.

I would say it is considered "performance". Timing typically isn't pulled with these lower tstats and combined with fan settings (I'm 190) these motors won't heat soak and deliver more fuel..... A tad more emissions too but hey... WTH right? Your trip was worth it. I'm a bit paranoid at 160..to low for me IMHO.
